The Club has been in Cup Competition over the last few weeks with huge success

Under 14 Boys

The Burton u14 boys (and a brilliant support crowd) walked away as winners of the tournament away at Loughborough Grammar School today in the England Hockey Tier 3 Development Championships tournament (round 1). Four of last year's boys were still eligible to play but for a lot of the team, this was their first time playing an u14 game. After eight training sessions with the boys on Thursday evenings at the Ellis, the lads really put their learning into practice with a convincing win of 5-1 against Derby Ramgarhia, a 4-3 win against Loughborough Town and a 2-1 win against Ashby.

The tournament repeats two more times, away in Ashby on the 19th of November in two weeks and then again on the 5th of February next year back in Burton.

A big thank you to all the parents and family who came to support and a huge congratulations to the lads who fully deserved the wins (although I think Loughborough have made a few errors uploading the scores, currently following up with the organisers). Big shout out to Tom Shenton too for umpiring.

Under 16 Girls

The new U16 girls, aged 12-16, played there first match today on the Ellis against Ashby. Unsure of what to expect, Burton started fast and within the first few minutes we had scored. After some great passes and many chances the half time score was 8-0 to Burton. Going into the second half, Burton had more confidence and began to play better as a team. Ashby had a few breaks that challenged our defence at times. Burton played well being able to score a further 6 goals. Final score 14-0. Goal scorers were myself x5, Sophie Carlton-Greaves x3, Harriet Buxton x1, Olivia Dale x1, Alice Hickman x1, Hattie Lester x1, Izzy Ridley x1 and Megan Ridley x1 (flick).

Todays team was Megan Ridley, Lucy Walker, Harriet Buxton, Sophie Carlton-Greaves (cpt), Olivia Dale, myself, Hattie Lester, Jess Carter (Belper), Alice Hickman, Megan Johnson, Yazmin Ambler, Eleanor Smedley (GK), Holly Davies, Izzy Ridley.

Thanks to Shannon Dillon and Russell Jurgen Davenport for umpiring and a big thanks to Jamie Cooper for coaching us.
Our next match is 19th November against North Stafford MHC.

Derwent Under 16 Boys

Another good win today for Derwent U16 boys featuring Kieran Whetton and Toby Ganley against a well organised Chesterfield team 5-0 the final result. Well done Chesterfield, the game was closer than the score suggests.

Ladies 2nd XI

The ladies 2's faced Huntingdon in our first cup game. Burton started well passing round creating chances, just struggling to find the back of the net. After moving Huntingdon's defence, Burton managed to score 4 goals before half time. After half time Burton continued to press well creating more chances on goal. After a lot of hard work from all players, we managed to score another 9 goals, with Megan Bignell not touching the ball once within the game. The final score was 13-0 to Burton. Goals were scored by Sophie Carlton-Greaves X4, Hatty Shenton X2 , Shannon Dillon X2, Jane Palmer X2, Lucy Pendleton, Harriet Buxton and Rhian Warriner.

Man of the match today went to Harriet Buxton and Shannon Dillon.
Thank you for all of the support, it was appreciated.

Ladies 3rd XI

A mixed squad of ladies 3 and 4s travelled to Nuneaton for the first cup game of the season. The pre match talk was pretty straight forward and Burton went into the game strong although Nuneaton were quick to intercept the ball and broke on a number of occasions, one resulting in a high shot on goal testing out the strength of my chest guard. We had a number of opportunities on goal from game play and penalty corners but were unable to find our way through a solid Nuneaton defence. Burton held strong but a well worked team goal from Nuneaton was slotted in 10 minutes from half time. Burton started the second half well and managed to keep most of the play in the opposition half, sheer determination paid off with a goal from Felicity Norcross making it 2-1 to the opposition. Nuneaton pressed high in the last 10 minutes of the game, against tired burton legs and put a third one away making the final score 3-1. MOTM today went to Annie Lord who had another storming game!

A huge well done to everyone today, despite the score line we did the red and green proud.

Mens Vets

Burton Vets 4 1 Edgbaston Vets

Burton expected a tough game but Edgbaston started the game with 9 which Burton took full advantage by scoring 2 quick from Andrew green card Woolley. Edgbaston eventually got themselves a full eleven and pulled a goal back but there never really threatened the Burton goal after that . Burton scored 2 more goals in the 2nd half Stephen Goodfellow finished off a good run from Richard Stringer and Garrick Thomas Dillon scored on a quick counter attack from a Edgbaston short corner .

Thanks to Nick Goode who umpired the whole game and Ian Brown who did the first half with a Edgbaston player doing the 2nd half
