Burton Hockey Club Men’s 1s played at home against Coalville 1s and won 3 1 against the bottom of the league team

Coalville started with the ball. Swiftly Burton won the ball back and retained possession. Coalville attempted to make progress  but the defence quickly won the ball back. After a quick aerial to Jamie Jenkins, he decided to lob the keeper but ended up winning the first short corner of the game.Andrew Locker pushed one out straight and Liam Goode muscled it through the defenders on the line to go 1-0 up. Coalville showed grit and determination to get their first win of the season as their striker wriggled his way down the left side to slot in a goal to the near post. Half time had come and the game was currently all in the balance at 1-1.

Once again quickly after the restart Jenkins wriggled his way through numerous players and found Jamie Cooper who supplied Rich Stringer to get his first goal back in the 1st team. Burton showed that their new formation was working and that they could actually keep hold of the ball. After more and more possession being held by Burton, Mark Ashton-Blanksby won a short corner. Burton Hockey Men 32s traveled the short distance to Rugby knowing that we were up against with only 10 players and went down 2 1 . Burton started slowly and Rugby took control but great tackling from Miles Smurfwaite and Simon White and some decent saves from keeper Russell Jurgen Davenport kept Burton in the game. Rugby got frustrated and Burton got into the game and won a couple of short corner at witch Burton took the lead when Jack Chambers tried a flick ,which was going over but was deflected in by a Rugby defender . Burton tried to hold on but Rugby had 70% of the play and in the end the 10 players of Burton got tired and conceded two late goals the first from a lucky deflection and 2nd from a hopeful cross that went in of the unlucky  Smurfwaite that wrong footed Davenport in goal .

Burton Men 3s had a 3 all draw with Buxton 1s coming back from  3-1 down well into the second half.
Buxton 1s have been thrashing teams and scoring loads of goals so Burton knew they had a game on their hands. Setting up slightly differently than normal Burton adopted a 4-4-2 formation. Buxton were strong and set about trying to enforce dominance in the midfield which they achieved early on and went 1 up. Burton stepped up and started to get back into it clawing one back through a Rob Pilgrim pile driver from a short.. A tight and even game followed and the teams went in 1-1 at half time. Back out for the second half and Buxton started to turn it on eventually going 3-1 up. Some stunning defensive displays  from Tim Glover, James Crane Pilgrim and Keiran Whetton. However star of the show with a man of the match performance from keeper Mark Bignell who dominated his D . The comeback started with a goal from new signing Dominic Sturman and a cracker to earn the draw at the end when Harrison Kep found Toby Ganley in exactly the right place at the right time.

Burton Hockey Ladies 1s finished a run of friendlies with an away fixture against Lichfield 2s. Burton started the game with good ball pace and fast passing, always 1 step ahead of the opposition and kept this up for the first 10 minutes. Lichfield used a long ball to break through Burton's lines and scored the first goal of the game against the run of play. Burton reacted immediately with Sophie Carlton-Greaves making a good run with the ball into the D and managed to sneak it under the keeper and over the line for 1-1 at  half time. Burton’s slick passing had taken a back seat as Lichfield just sought out the long ball and forced Burton away from their desired style of play. A period of 15 minutes in the second half saw Burton playing very defensively with some good saves from Megan Bignell and man of the match Francesca Lord breaking down many of their attacks. Finally Burton were looking threatening on the counter attack and after many unfinished chances, Amy Palmer jumped on a loose ball in the D and fired home, taking a small deflection on the line from a defender. The scoreline remained at 2-1 until the dying minute of the game when a slip from right back Abi Lester left Lichfield with an overload which they took advantage of and slotted home with some neat passing around the keeper for the draw.
